The Problems with Pepcid and Other Antacids. PPIs inhibit acid secretion more effectively than H2 blockers which is why they are carry a higher risk of any or all of these associated problems. Omeprazole (Prilosec) is the only one of the PPIs sold at pharmacies without a prescription, and dosages for cats can (unfortunately) easily be found online.
